Real big dogs and cats are looked down upon because they have the potential to disturb the peace and can cause great damage to the inside of any apartment when you are gone to work. If you are given the opportunity to have your pet with you, let it be written down in the contract.

Also, with leasing an apartment, you no longer have to worry about taking care of the lawn or making sure the roof does not leak. That is a definite responsibility of the proprietor and should be known in the written contract.

Now, the human neighbors are another story. We all have to do a bit of compromising in order to live side-by-side with our human counterparts. That is just the way it is. We all have something that others will not like about us. But, there are a few individuals who just enjoy making other people's lives miserable. They obviously have no lives of their own and must use your life to make their lives interesting. Always try to live peacefully and become friends with the owners.

A contract for a lease can be quite detailed. It may seem to be a waste of time but, it is important that you and the apartment owner come to an agreement to be completely up front with each other, and to write everything down in the contract. It is not nit picking to be cautious. You both have interests which need to be upheld and the best way to do that is through the written contract.

Keep in mind that those who rent apartments and houses have their own ideas of what is appropriate for the leasing contract. Speak candidly with this individual so that you may know where he or she stands. You should read any contract carefully and any changes should be initialed by you and the apartment owner.
